Management Committee

Egypt Equine Aid is grateful to its Management Committee for generously giving their time, skills and resources.

Jill Barton, Co-Founder & CEO

Jill has always loved horses and her first job (at age 14!) was working at a riding school.

Although she went on to a career in the medical field (for humans!), she’s been involved in animal charities and rescue, most of life.

Jill is so passionate about saving the animals in Egypt that she & her husband founded Egypt Equine Aid by selling their family home and moving to Cairo.

Warren Barton, Co-Founder & Treasurer

Warren has a background in construction, and started in the building industry in 1969. Warren went on to have his own successful business and became a registered builder. He continued to work in the industry for 40+ years.

Warren joined the Australian Army for 3 years, then owned and operated a retail outlet for 3 years after leaving the Army.

After visiting Cairo in 2014 with Jill, he returned to Australia in 2015 to establish the Registered EEA Charity, and complete all the Government requirements.

Towards the end of 2015 he was able use his valuable skills to construct and fit-out EEA’s farm facilities. Then again visiting the facility in Cairo in 2016, to follow up on any further construction requirements.

Now living in Australia, he continues to support EEA by processing donations and the financial management of the Charity.

Dr Med Vet Muriel Sacks, DVM, Masters in Vet Med, Chairperson, Veterinary Technical Director

Dr Sacks is a highly-qualified veterinarian.

Originally from Switzerland, she worked in the equine department at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia.

She has published research on a number of topics including Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia.

Muriel visited EEA in 2017 and provided some expert advice and training for our staff.

Nicole Van de Gard, BEd (Hons), LLB, Grad.Dip. Legal Practice, MEd Secretary

Nicole is a teacher and a lawyer and has worked in both professions.

She now works in a business improvement team at a university in Sydney.

Nicole has been a passionate supporter of animal charities since childhood and has played an active role in a variety of charities.

Phoebe Dugdale, UK Vet Student, CEO Assistant

I began as a volunteer in early 2019 after seeing the horrendous state of animal welfare in Egypt. Understanding the desperate need for EEA, I sought to become as involved as I could. Finding my place and developing my skills with EEA has been a great privilege.

I grew up in the horse world in Newmarket in the UK and I was a horseback guide in the South African bush for 6 years, so horses are where I will always feel at home.
My plan is to stay with EEA to help the equine beasts of burden until a day comes that they no longer require this help.

Saritha Silvaraju, Accountant & Finance Director

When I was looking for volunteer opportunities to give back to the community, a friend introduced me to Egypt Equine Aid. After learning about the great work done by the organisation to help these innocent animals, I instantly wanted to be a small part of this great organisation.

As a CPA-qualified accountant with over 10 years of experience in the Accounting & Finance field, I am hoping to provide any support I can to Jill and her team and make a difference to the lives of these beautiful animals.
